Administration
Records, timetables, examinations, money and Ministry contacts.
Records and reports you must keep
The Education Regulations list records and reports principals must keep. They include pupil records, attendance, staff meeting notes and an annual report on the premises.
Setting the school timetable
Prepare the timetable and run the school by it. Build it to protect teaching time, and plan supervision for when it is interrupted.
Finding the right Ministry department
Each Ministry department looks after a different part of education. Use this list to work out who to contact, then find them in the staff directory.
Ministry forms, contacts and publications
The Ministry website has a staff directory, digital forms and publications. These are the links given in the guides.
Managing school money and resources
Use public funds wisely and fairly, in the best interest of students. Follow all financial rules, and be open about how money is spent.
Organising internal and external examinations
Principals must examine pupils in the way the Education Regulations set out. In a secondary school, the deputy principal oversees exam arrangements.
Laws and policies listed in the guide
Section 6 of both guides lists these under Administration.
